Option 1 - Do the Painting Yourself. While doing it yourself may save money, unless you know more than the average person about paint and finishes, surfaces and textures, you may well be disappointed with the results.
Option 2 - Have a Friend Paint. It might seem like a good idea to give a friend or relative a chance to make some extra money or maybe you can collect on a loan this way, but if you value your relationship, having a friend or relative do your painting is not a good idea. Painting is messy, your household routine is disrupted during the process, and spilled paint or stain can damage your floors and furniture. Things are bound to go wrong in at least a small way, and this will put a real strain on your relationship.
Option 3 - Hire a Painting Contractor. This option is almost always your best choice. Why? Because painting contractors are in the painting business. They know what they're doing. They have to be licensed, bonded, and insured. Many also have to pass tests to prove they are knowledgeable and skilled. You will be able to find out if they have any complaints filed against them by contacting various government agencies and business associations.
